Community School

Brandywine Community School offers a variety of activities and programs throughout the year. The goal of these events is for staff, parents, and the community to work in partnership to create a positive environment where children can maximize their potential and discover the value of becoming life-long learners.

An educational process that stretches beyond the walls of the classoom is the foundation for BCS to offer students the academic and counseling support to achieve and exceed each student's individualized goals

Counseling

Each student at BCS has group counseling several times a week and individual sessions once a week or as needed. Students participate in Personal Power/Anger Management, which focuses on recognizing stress in the body, "hot buttons" or anger triggers, and cool down techniques or coping mechanisms for dealing with a frustrating situation. Conflict Resolution group is also offered. This group focuses on active listening, role-plays and collaborative communication. Each student practices listening skills as well as "I statements." Test anxiety can be a concern that many students face. To address this issue, the students are given strategies to help alleviate the stress and provided with helpful hints and test taking tips. Here are some helpful websites - Kidshealth.org and How-to-study.com Students also focus on maintaining their progress and success while at Brandywine Community School in order to return to their district school. Students establish academic and behavioral goals while attending BCS so as to assist in their successful return to their district school.
