The Compass School offers a variety of activities and programs throughout the year. The goal of these events is for staff, parents, and the community to work in partnership to create a positive environment where children can maximize their potential and discover the value of becoming life-long learners.
The Compass School has gained PBS Star School Status for the 2nd year in a row!!!!
COUNSELING
Students will be working on Communication Skills, Conflict Resolution / Problem Solving, Goals and Career Exploration.Students will also be working on a new transition to help students who are returning to their home school have a smoother transition.
ACADEMICS
Math - 5th and 6th grade are working on patterns and symbols. The 7th grade is studying building formulas and the 8th graders are working on graphing equations.
Science - The 5th and 6th graders are working on simple machines and magnetism and then will study Earth history and rock cycle. The 7th graders are studying the Nature of Science, while the 8th graders will be studying the transfer of energy.
Language Arts - Our upper middle school students will be reading the novel The Wave and our younger middle school students will be reading and analyzing a collection of short stories from their Anthology textbook.
Social Studies - 5th Grade will be studying the U.S.A. as an industrial society, including inventions, immigration & growing cities, organized labor and becoming a world power. The 6th grade will be studying Ancient Greece, 7th grade will be analyzing Europe during the Middle Ages, while the 8th grade will be focusing on economic and social differences between the southern and northern states on the U.S. during the 19th century.- Our elementary students will be studying decimals, patterns, wholes and parts in math. In language arts they will continue reading stories of the week which includes grammar and vocabulary lessons.
